Flurry of Firsts!


 

It was the first event of the first meet that the youngest age group ripped through the water to a 1st place finish in the W10&U 200 Freestyle Relay for the Morris County Swim Club at the Hall-O-Ween Invitational at Seton Hall University October 24-25.

 

Alina Demirel, Charlie Trinco, Rachel Ahlmeyer and Hollie Hopf combined for 2 of the clubs 14 1st place finishes. Hopf and Trinco added individual 1st finishes along with Brian Stiles (5), Jessica Stiles (1), Michael Stiles (1), Leanne Zaug (2) and the M11-12 Freestyle Relay team including Jamie Viotto, Bill Ulrich, Alin Kenworthy and Matt Linz. 195 Personal Best Times were set at the meet, including 14 club records.

Congratulations to all of the swimmers at the meet! The MCSC entered 84 swimmers and were a part of 1,000 athletes from 15 clubs that took part in the 2-day meet.


COACH AL SAYS

Congratulations MCSC on an outstanding HALL-O-WEEN Meet this past weekend at Seton Hall. 72 swimmers recorded almost 75 % Personal Best Times with 36 swimmers having perfect meets (ALL PBT’s) !!!!

New Short Course Gold times were recorded by Patrick Bauer – 100 Back, Hollie Hopf – 100 Free, Matt Linz - 50 Free & 100 IM,  Michael Stiles – 50 & 100 Breast, Bill Ulrich – 50 Back.

Achieving new Short Course Silver times were Rachel Ahlmeyer, Anna Baccaglini, Matt Carey, Alina Demirel, Gabrielle Ferrara, Matt Finkelstein, Jonathan Masukewicz, Dennis Oussenko, Cortland Schroth, Jessica Stiles, Michael Stiles, Charlie Trinco, Bill Ulrich and Leanne Zaug.

New Team Records were established by:

Brian Stiles set 5 of 6 Personal Best Times in capturing his 5 first place finishes and a 2nd while Leanne Zaug followed up with 2 1st place finishes of her own, both setting team records, but it was the effort of our youngest competitors that set the stage each day of the meet for the MCSC.

The Women's 10 & Under team followed up their Saturday 1st place relay with a dramatic 1st event, 1st place in the W10&U 200 Medley Relay on Sunday. Ahlmeyer set a Personal Best and Silver Time of 42.04 in the 50 Backstroke to start off the medley. Although she dropped 1.41 seconds off her best time, a fast Cougar Aquatics team took the lead after the first leg of the relay. Trinco followed up in the Breaststroke with a 43.20. Trinco finished her leg strong to keep in sight of the lead team from CAT. Hopf began closing the gap in the first 25 of her Fly leg and then set a blistering pace coming home to take the lead, for the MCSC, finishing the Fly with a 31.78. Demirel took off with a body length lead in the Freestyle, though the tenacious CAT team cut the lead to half a body length at the turn. Demirel swept through her turn, pouncing off the wall, to increase her lead back to a body length and charged to the finish with a team 2:29.40, winning the event by 0.68 seconds.

On Saturday,the M11-12 200 Freestyle Relay earned 1st place with a dramatic win of their own. Viotto turned in a 29.51, Ulrich 28.14, Kenworthy 33.09 and Linz finishing in a 27.74 to combine for a team 1:58.48 to earn a 0.42 second victory over a team from North Jersey Bluestreaks.

In the middle session on Saturday, the M10&U 200 Freestyle Relay team of Michael Stiles 33.09, Jonathon Masukewicz 36.52, Matt Finkelstein 32.58 and Patrick Bauer 33.41 barely missed a 1st place finish of their own, turning in a 2nd place finish of 2:15.60, 1-one hundredth of a second off the lead time.

The 15-19 200 Freestyle Relay team of Leanne Zaug 27.92, Aly Slezak 29.88, Brittany Campo 29.67 and Nicole Harris 27.55 earned bragging rights over the MCSC 13-14 team with a 2nd place time of 1:55.02. The 13-14 team of Maddie Hamilton 29.52, Anna Baccaglini 29.34, Allison Vilchinsky 30.96 and Jessica Stiles 26.12 finished 2nd in their event, 0.93 seconds off the 15-19 pace with a 1:55.95.
