The 24 MCSC athletes set 18 club
records and set 54 Best Times at the May Meters Matter Meet held at
the Felix Festa Middle School in West Nyack, NY May 3 & 4.
“After our between season break”,
commented Head Coach Jenn Ciulla of Morristown, “we felt an early
season meet would be a good practice meet to begin their Long Course
training.” Long Course (LC) meets are held in 50-meter pools,
unlike the winter season, when meets are held in 25-yard pools. “Each
lap is more than twice the winter length, the bodies are used to more
frequent turns that give swimmers extra propulsion off of the walls.
Switching to the Long Course format and having a few weeks off would
usually result in slower times at the beginning of the season”,
explained Ciulla. “We’re thrilled with the strong effort that so
many of the swimmers put in, they’re really excited and working
hard at practice and it’s nice the swimmers got to see the results
of their hard work so early in the season.”
