Golden Boy Viotto
Jamie Viotto of Morris Township
captured Gold Times in 12 events over two meets competing for the
Morris County Swim Club. Gold Times qualify athletes for the NJ
Junior Olympics, being held in March at Rutgers University. With
Viotto's Gold Times, he also earned 1st place in 2 events,
gathered 6 2nd place finishes over the two meets and swam
to personal Best Times in all events at the Princeton Invitational.
Viotto swam the M9-10 100 Back in 1:20.69 and 100IM in 1:21.18 both
1st place finshes at the Winter Wonderland meet. He swam
the M9-10 200 Free at Princeton in 2:23.38, a Best Time by over 8
seconds and the 200IM in 2:47.05.
Brother Justin competed at the
Wonderland meet and picked up 2 3rdrd place finish with a 27.27 M6&U 25 Free. place finishes, an
18.84 in the M7-8 25 Free and 50 Free in 42.97. Brother Jordan also
earned a 3
Also from Morris Township, Casey
Hasenbein earned 6 Silver Times over the two meets in her 6 events,
all Best Times. The Silver Times qualify athletes for the Silver
Championships, being held in late February for the 9-10 age group.
The Silvers is the last qualifying meet for the Junior Olympics. At
Princeton, Hasenbein swam a 1:30.30 W10&U 100 Back, better by
6.75, a 33.33 50 Free and 1:27.62 100IM. She followed up at
Wonderland with Best Times in the 50 Back in 40.88, 1:39.04 100
Breast and 32.72 in the 50 Free.
Convent Station star Fara Cohen earned
9 Silver Times over the 2 meets and Best Times in 7. Cohen had 5
Silvers at Princeton, including a 39.66 W10&U 50 Fly and a
1:19.22 100 Free. At Wonderland, Cohen earned a 6th place
in the W9-10 100IM in 1:30.01, an improvement of 3.37.
From Morris Plains, Rachel Ahlmeyer
particpated in both meets and earned Best Times in the W10&U 50
Fly in 44.29 and 50 Back in 44.73 at Princeton and a 55.56 50 Breast
at Wonderland. Shannon Keller found Silver Times in 5 of 6 events at
Wonderland, including Best Times in the W9-10 50 Fly in 42.85, 50
Back in 39.97, 100 Breast in 1:48.86 and 50 Free in 35.73.
From Morristown, Gabrielle Ferrara
dropped 15.89 in a 1:27.99 W11-12 Back and sliced 8.80 in the 50
Breast to finish 53.38. Her 50 Free at Princeton was a Best Time
32.88. Lauren Goldhirsch contributed 4 Best Times in 6 events over
the 2 meets. At Princeton, she swam a 36.62 W10&U 50 Free and a
1:39.92 100IM, both improved by over 2 seconds. At Wonderland,
Goldhirsch's Best Times came in the W9-10 50 Back in 49.40 and 100
Breast in 1:53.29. Julia Hall swam to 5 of 6 Best Times at the meets,
with a 43.77 W10&U 50 Fly and 1:52.03 100 Breast at Princeton and
a 39.75 Silver Time 50 Back for 4th place, a 1:50.39 100
Breast and 34.44 Silver 50 Free. At Princeton, Tommy Johnson swam to
a 1:05.69 M13-14 100 Free and a 1:36.4 100 Breast, both Best Times
while brother Jeff earned a Best Time in the M11-12 50 Free in 36.18.
Maddie Lapsley earned Best Times in the W13-14 200IM in 2:59.60 and
100 Free in 1:09.66. At Wonderland, Allison Leung swam 3 events and
finished the W9-10 50 Free in 36.82. Maggie Servais dropped 3.33 to
finish the W9-10 50 Breast in 57.99. Ryan Trackenberg scored Best
Times in 4 of 6 events, including an 18.44 drop in the M9-10 100 Free
to finish 2:09.98 and slashed 10.35 in the 100 Breast in a 2:39.70.

Shaffer, Stiles & Strelec Slash Seconds
From Denville, Molly Shaffer, Juliann
Stiles and Andrew Strelec competed in swim meets at Princeton and
West Nyack NY and slashed times in 18 of 18 events, competing for the
Morris County Swim Club.
Shaffer and Strelec’s most productive
meet of the season was at the Princeton Invitational. Shaffer slashed
5.83 in the W10&U 50 Fly to finish 47.74 and took 4.12 from the
50 Breast to finish 54.24. Shaffer averaged 2-second improvements in
the 50 Free, 100IM, 100 Free and 100 Breast. Strelec sliced 16.65 in
finishing the M11-12 100IM in 1:28.81, cut 9.01 in the 100 Back for a
1:26.44 and 8.20 from the 100 Fly for a 1:31.81. He averaged 3-second
improvements in the 50 Free, Fly and Back.
Stiles crushed her previous Best Time
in the W7-8 50 Breast with a 31.00 improvement to finish 1:08.05 and
swiped 12.48 from the 25 Fly to finish 29.91. Her 3-second average
improvement in other events included the 25 Back, 25 Free, 50 Back
and 25 Breast. The 25 Free time of 19.99 was good for 9th
place. Her brother Michael also competed at the Winter Wonderland
meet, setting Best and Silver Times in the M9-10 50 Breast in 46.90
for a 4th place and 1:48.76 in the 100 Breast for 9th
place. At the Princeton meet, Stiles set a Silver Time in the 50 Free
in 35.87. The Silver Times qualify the athletes for entry in the
Silver Championships, the last opportunity to obtain Gold Times and
entry into the NJ Swimming Junior Olympics. Sister Jessica slashed
2.57 for a Silver Time in the W11-12 50 Back in 34.37. Brother Brian
finished off the Stiles improvements in triples, with 3 Gold, 3
Silver and 3 Best Times. The Gold Times came in the M13-14 200IM in
2:19.59, 200 Free in 2:01.07 and 100 Back in 1:04.61.
At Princeton and from Denville, Anna
Baccaglini earned 5 Silver and 5 Best Times. She set the pace for
many swimmers with an average improvement of 20 seconds in the W11-12
200 IM to finish 2:48.28 and 200 Free in 2:28.13. Nicole Harris set a
Silver Time in the W13-14 100 Back in 1:12.01. Shannon Hughes set a
Silver Time in the W13-14 50 Free in 28.73 and improved by 6 seconds
in the 200IM for a 2:42.01, sliced 3.22 in the 200 Back for a 2:43.61
and Best Time in the 100 Fly in 1:21.00. Annie Shaffer competed in a
couple of events at Princeton and narrowly missed a Best Time with a
W13-14 200 Back finish in 2:44.43.
From Boonton Township, Garrett Pullis
cut 2.33 and earned 1st Place and a Gold Time in the
M13-14 100 Breast in a time of 1:05.86. It’s his 3rd
Gold Time in 3 events as he works his way back from a fall injury.
In her first year with the MCSC, Regina
Mahaffey of Maplewood also competed at Princeton and finished 1:50.12
in the W13-14 100 Back and 40.79 in the 50 Free.
Back at the Wonderland Meet, Denville’s
Stephanie Harris continued slashing time in her events and picking up
2 1st place victories, the W9-10 100 Breast in a Gold Time
of 1:31.98 and 50 Brest Gold in 41.00. She earned Gold and 3rd
place in the 50 Free in 32.09 and a 3rd in the 100IM.
Harris improved 20.15 in the W200IM with a time of 3:07.88. James
Koppelmann scored a Best Time in the M9-10 100 Free in 1:57.05, a
drop of 1.08.

Karback Works Wonders at Wonderland
From Towaco, Gregory Karback earned 4
top-10 finsihes for the Morris County Swim Club at the Winter
Wonderland swim meet. Karback placed 2nd in the M7-8 25
Fly with a time of 31.01, a 5th in the 25 Breast in 31.59,
a 7th in the 50 Free in 48.19 and 7th in the 50
Breast in 1:04.94. Karback also dropped 5.64 to finish 11th
in the 25 Back and cut 0.30 for the 25 Free for a 21.57 and another
11th. Sister Sarah set her own Best Time in the W9-10 100
Breast in 2:00.31, a drop of 4.12 and cut time in the 50 Breast for a
54.44.
From Kinnelon, at the Princeton meet,
Ankit Khosla returned to the meet circuit with a huge 39.57 cut with
a 1:10.48 M10&U 50 Breast and a 4.29 improvement in the 50 Free.

Linz
& Plum Set Pace at Princeton
Led by Matt Linz and Ian Plum, Morris
County Swim Clubs Randolph athletes set Best Times through hard work
at the Princeton Invitational January 19-20. Linz set Best Times in 5
of 5 events at the meet, including a cut of 14.76 in the M11-12 200
Free for a 2:34.29 and drop of 12.94 in the 200IM for a 2:57.11. He
improved in the 50 Free and 100IM, earning Silver Times, qualifying
him for the Silver Championships, the last opportunity to obtain Gold
Times and entry in the NJ Junior Olympics in March.
Plum also set Best Times in 5 events.
In his most productive meet of the season, Plum slashed 11.10 in the
M10&U 50 Free for a 39.95 and cut 9.40 in the 50 Fly for a 55.65.
His other improvements came in the 50 Breast in 53.54, 100 Free in
1:38.57 and 50 Back in 50.17.
Catherine Barrow sliced time in 2 of 3
events, including a 55.09 W11-12 50 Breast, 10.12 better. Matthew
Finkelstein slashed 32.75 in the M10&U 100 Back for a 1:35.30 and
Silver Time. He also earned Silver in a Best Time 50 Fly in 42.20.
Sister Stacy inched closer to a Silver in the W13-14 100 Fly with an
improvement of 2.20 for a 1:14.73. Lexi Krynicki chopped 6.86 from
her W13-14 200 Free for a 2:34.15.

Deuces
Wild for Rosen Brothers
Jared and Zach Rosen each swam for two
2nd place finishes at the Winter Wonderland Meet for the
Morris County Swim Club. Jared had 6 top-5 finishes including his 2nd
place finishes in the M7-8 50 Fly in 49.63 and 25 Breast in 27.92,
both personal Best Times. He added a 3rdth in the 25 Free in 18.91 and 2 5th
places in the 50 Breast in 1:01.39 and 50 Free in 46.17. place in the 50
Back in 49.60, a 4
Zach was 2 for 2, with his 2nd
place finishes in the 2 events he participated in. He earned a 28.07
in the M6&U 25 Back and a 24.18 in the 25 Free, both Best Times
by an average of 9 seconds.
Matthew Finkelstein dropped time in 3
events, including a 4th place finish in the M9-10 100IM
with a 1:35.48, 50 Breast in 50.39 and a 1:50.29 100 Breast.
Charlie Trinco set 4 Best Times in 6
events. She earned Silver Time finishes and Best Times in the W9-10
50 Breast in 44.65 for 6th place and 1:38.93 in the 100
Breast for 7th place. Her other Best Times came in the 50
Fly in 48.84 and 50 Back in 48.14.

Vilchinsky
Has Best Times at Princeton
Allison Vilchinsky turned in 4 personal
Best Times and swam to 4 Silver Times at the Princeton Invitational,
competing for the Morris County Swim Club. Her Best Times came in the
W11-12 200IM, breaking the 2:50 mark to finish 2:49.49, the 50 Fly in
32.83, a mere half-second from Gold, 200 Free in 2:31.61 and the 50
Back in 37.97. The Silver Times qualify the athlete for the Silver
Championships, the last opportunity to earn Gold Times and entry into
the NJ Junior Olympics in March.
Alin Kenworthy of Brookside earned 3
personal Best Times at the Princeton meet. He covered the M11-12 50
Free in 32.95, an improvement of 5.29, the 100 Free in 1:20.44, 10.07
better and 50 Back in 45.84, 1.10 improved.
From Chester, the Dodge boys set
personal Best Times in all of their events. Nick Dodge slashed 12.61
in the M13-14 100 Breast to finish 1:25.15 and also trimmed time in
his two other events, finishing the 200IM in 2:47.85 and 100 Free in
1:07.64. Brother Noah set a Silver Time in the M9-10 50 Breast in
45.79, a 3.17 second improvement and cut time in the 50 Free to 37.15
and 100IM in 1:36.66.
The MCSC also took part in the Winter
Wonderland Meet January 26-27. Sarah Trank of Mendham earned Best
Times in 3 of 5 events. She set a 1:03.75 in the W9-10 50 Fly, a
1:53.82 in the 100 Free and 57.37 for the 50 Back.

Hopf,
MacEwen & Rose Earn Gold and Silver
From Succasunna and competing for the
Morris County Swim Club, Hollie Hopf earned her 1st Gold
Time at the Winter Wonderland Meet and Taylor MacEwen took home her
first Silver Time at the Princeton Invitational. A Silver Time
qualifies the swimmer for entry in the Silver Championships, the last
opportunity to obtain Gold Times, which qualify swimmers for the NJ
Junior Olympics, NJ Swimming’s Championship Meet.
Hopf swam to her Gold Time and 3rd
place finish in the W9-10 50 Fly in 36.96, an improvement of 3.38
seconds. She also earned 3 Silver Times in the 100 Free in 1:20.32,
100 Breast in 1:46.57 and 50 Free in 33.37. All were personal Best
Times, including another in the 50 Back in 44.29 at the Wonderland
meet.
MacEwen, in her first meet with the
MCSC, brought home a Silver Time in the W11-12 Breast in 39.91. She
also swam the 50 Free in 35.82 and 100 Free in 1:23.13. Also from
Succasunna at the Princeton meet, Patrick Rose swam to 3 Best Times
in his 3 events. He earned a Silver Time in the M10&U 50 Free in
36.02 and improved in the 50 Breast to 48.76 and 100IM in 1:36.39.
Rose also took part in the Winter
Wonderland Meet and improved in the M9-10 50 Fly by 3.10 for a 43.48
and a 5th place. In all, Rose had 4 top-10 finishes, with
another 5th in the 100IM in 1:36.11 and 2 8th’s,
a 48.99 50 Breast and 1:47.49 100 Breast.
